About the project Edit

No matter how small, all projects that strive to improve living conditions and implement the promoter’s ambitions need to be considered in terms of achieving objectives. In effect, the project – Secretarial office for the public: office automation, computers and maintenance – functions as a company that sells products and computer consumables and supplies office services (secretarial office for the public) and computer maintenance (installing and repairing computer equipment). All of these services will be supported by an Internet café, a framework where more and more users can surf and use the Web for their needs.

In short, the company is ready to respond to the growing needs of Ouagadougou’s populations in the field of information technology (Internet café), office automation (secretarial office for the public) and equipment repair (installing and repairing).

The idea to create a company in the information technology field in Burkina Faso is based on a widely-held belief: to quickly develop and especially grow the sector, but also direct the influx of people towards this new reality.

For this reason, our objectives stay within the following scope:

- Satisfy the populations’ needs for quality local services
- Provide a learning environment for others (training)
- Create jobs
- Develop entrepreneurial skills
- Be independent

We plan to set up the company in Ouagadougou in the surrounding neighbourhood of sector 30 Karpala 1 and 2. This location was specifically chosen for several reasons:

- It’s a new district that has a large population who is very intellectual, but who don’t have Internet connections at home

- There are a lot of students who live in the area

- There is no local service. People travel far from other sectors to find a public sector to make photocopies, enter data for school or work, surf the Web, etc.

There are not many services or institutions that can support us in Burkina, mainly in Ouagadougou, and they are rarely interested in this kind of project, including:

- Zicom: specializing in computer and office automation consulting, maintenance, network, audit, advice and training

- Mr. ZOROME Alpha Souleymane: www.zicom-b.com

Project rollout date

If all goes well, we expect to start setting up the company’s activities by the end of 2012.

This date was chosen by taking into account any difficulties that may arise during the process, so we reasonably expect to give ourselves enough time to avoid anything that could get in the way of achieving our objectives.

II – Context of the project

1- Geographic context

As we’ve already mentioned, sector 30 in Ouagadougou is a new district that has a significant population largely made up of a medium- and high-level civil servants, employees from the private sector who are intellectual, but also and mostly, students. Students are especially attracted by the net which helps them in their research and data entry for work or school, but also for making photocopies.

As well, in the this part of the city, there aren’t any local services of this kind. You have to go far away in other sectors to find one.

Like a fad, civil servants, workers from the private sector and students are all attracted by a growing need in the information industry for Internet, a secretarial office and office automation services.

2- Political context

In terms of politics, since the advent of New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT), Burkina Faso (government and legislation) encourages and supports the project. No restrictions or constraints are imposed to setup a new media promotions company. For office automation, the market if open and free.

However, legal obligations, statutes, regulations, etc. of the implementation and commitment of tax and income tax in terms of the state and municipality, are strictly respected.

3- Economic context

For the many services offered on the net – knowing how to listen to and download music, watching video clips, discussing and chatting with friends in the world, playing games, reading the news, conducting research, friends, etc. – people won’t hesitate to spend 250 FCFA to enjoy themselves online (the cost of one hour on the Web).

In terms of secretarial services, that means data entry, printing, photocopies, binding – people’s daily tasks keep them busy.

These works are increasing and provide a lot of good amenities for the public’s secretarial offices. Here, data entry and printing a page costs between 200 and 300 CFA francs. Photocopies range from 8 to 25 CFA francs per page.

Finally, we think that the economic context is positive since people need the works and services listed above and will get them wherever they can despite the current situation.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Promoter’s presentation: The current business plan will describe the project in terms of structure and all ideas relative to the realization of the future company. It will help us also to think about our personal organization, staff and finally remind us of our legal obligations as project manager.

This project has its own character and is the sole responsibility of Eric SIMPORE, the promoter. In effect, Eric is a young, 23-year old man who had a particular fondness for the information technology in terms of a core business. For many years now, he went from apprentice in maintenance, manager of a secretarial office for the public, Internet café and store that sold computer consumables. With all of this experience and skills in the field, he wanted to challenge himself by starting his own business in the business world.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

- Develop entrepreneurial skills
- Be independent
