The project consists in creating a structure for audio-visual production responsible for turning university courses into audio-visual tools available to students. Additionally, some didactic document could also be put into audio form to facilitate students’ learning.
This project is unique and creative in that it represents a first in our public space. Additionally, this project is based on the assumption that all Africans, no matter what their level of education have a propensity for the oral word over the written. That is to say, the value of the oral word must not be overlooked in the development of curricula for the transmission of knowledge, even if priority must be given to the written word.
The social value of this project is to increase the level of social debate by allowing university knowledge to permeate the social fabric. At the same time, this creates a society of local knowledge, ready to participate in a global society of knowledge. Furthermore, this newly established dynamic facilitates learning. Hence, professionals and executives who are limited in terms of time or live in regions far from university centres have the unique opportunity for continuous training by distance.
This initiative will first be launched in Ougadougo and will be expanded over time to the whole of the Burkina Faso region and even beyond if possible. The long-term goal is to create a televisual university in West Africa.
The observed difficulties encountered by public universities specifically, the University of Ougadougou are lack of instructors; lack of space in lecture halls; constant interruptions; large class sizes, etc.
