About the project Edit

Baggage used to be transported by men in rural and even urban areas with all the risks for accidents or by car or truck or at an exorbitant cost. Now with Easy Cart, baggage can be transported from one place to another.

This system started in the Togolese capital and spread to rural areas where modern powered ways did not exist and where transportation routes were inadequate. With 200 CFA francs, 200 kg bags can be transported for 2 km and with 50 CFA francs, 100 kg of baggage can be transported from one store to another in a 150 m radius.

This is a radical technical innovation.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

This technical innovation finds its specificity and creativity in the fact that it’s made by welders from recycled materials such as tires, used railway ties, etc. while maintaining the primary function of transporting at the lowest cost – a role previously allotted to men and cars, but at a higher cost.

With this system, agricultural crop products are no longer stocked in fields and are, therefore, subject to theft. As soon as the harvests are over, we use this method to remove them to homes. This method is actually used on a large-scale in the city, as well as the country.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

The social value of this project is the reduction of baggage transport costs within a market. This mode of transport has created a business opportunity for poor and abandoned children so that they may use it for daily activities that generate funds to purchase it.

Profits from this activity allows them to attend school or learn a so-called ordinary job. This added value is also tangible in rural areas where the cart is the only way to transport baggage or merchandise.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

Potential expansion for Easy Cart is limitless in West Africa. It responds to the current needs of all populations whether in the city or in the country. It can certainly be used in other African countries because it is risk-free and affordable.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

The problems that led to this initiative are the following :
- increasing poverty
- significant increase in transport costs
- absence of adapted modes of transport within markets
- absence of adapted modes of transport in villages and in the country

What is the business model of this project? Edit

This innovative project can be used easily by all economic agents. The disadvantaged consider it an employment opportunity. It is a tool for the struggle against poverty.
