About the project Edit

Woman: Creation and production – An Essential Path is a project that mentors women entrepreneurs living in rural or urban areas by creating value to local handicraft products that are much sought after on national and international markets. This project was initiated by Femme en Démocratie (Women in Democracy) launched in Haiti in the 2000s.

Each region has its own specificity in production and creativity. In fact, this project – which encourages entrepreneurs in their quantitative and qualitative production – provides revenue diversification and market expansion.

In what ways is this project unique and creative? Edit

Artisans share technical and ideological information on the products developed between them and that are greatly appreciated by consumers. This project considers local initiatives as an engine to kick start development.

What is the social value of this project? Edit

These days, national territory entrepreneurs are members of this organization and participate in activities. The organization can also identify additional revenue, encourage farmers in the production of raw reusable materials and satisfy consumers looking for new products.

What is the potential of this project to expand and develop? Edit

In a period of less than 10 years, entrepreneurs from all regions come to participate in the national fairs organized by Femme Création. As well, individuals from the private sector and institutions in the public and international sectors are getting more involved in this initiative.

What was the triggering factor of this project? Edit

In the past, women entrepreneurs worked alone without any support, exchange or strategy in sustainable development in the craft sector and marketing of products. Femme en démocratie (Women in Democracy) created this initiative because it wanted to work with women entrepreneurs and saw a future in this project for artisans.

What is the business model of this project? Edit

Entrepreneurs are the main generators of revenue through products developed from local raw materials. Products are priced between $7 and $100 US.
