Focus Week: Mapping Social Innovation

Последнее обновление 4 июля 2013 г..

This month, we’re initiating a new approach to group and community participation. Focus Weeks will use broad themes to collaboratively explore several facets of social innovation. During those Focus Weeks we will encourage you to participate in collaborative activities and spread the word about stimulating projects, social actors, and relevant content. Those theme-based Focus Weeks will occur each month. In order to expand social innovation’s knowledge base, we will wrap up each Focus Week with an overview of the week’s activities and contents. This overview will then be available on our site.

September Is Innovative Mapping Month

For its inaugural Focus Week, beginning September 17, we will concentrate on social innovation related to mapping. Together, we will look at the innovative ways people use maps and geolocation to enhance social projects. As mapping is a broad theme, we will touch upon diverse topics during our Focus Week. Through such issues as integrated resource management, crisis mapping, and urban mapping, several social projects should pique your curiosity. We will announce activities on our blog as we go on. However, please mark your calendar for Wednesday, September 19. We will host a livetweet session on the month’s theme from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT (15:00 to 17:00 UTC). Please come meet us on Twitter and use the hashtag #InnMap to identify your tweets on innovative mapping.

Mapping-Related Projects The following projects on our platform relate to mapping in interesting ways.

Net!2 Plan Net!2 Plan Contributing to integrated management in the LDCs through interactive mapmaking Net!2Plan provides a geomapping tool to help decision makers and investors tackle development issues more efficiently. Its focus is on developing countries where this information is missing or nonexistent. This generates geolocation information for infrastructure such as, boreholes, hospitals, and schools. These data are then combined with demographic and regional statistics from the last censuses and surveys for example, GDP per inhabitant, infant mortality rate, literacy rate, etc. of a given area. I hace been surfing online more than 2hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.

It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view,
if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be a lot more
    useful than ever before.
